Do doctors look down at nurses?

The answer to that is yes and no.

Unfortunately, there will always be people who instead of feeling good about themselves from the inside, they acquire degrees and prestige to feel superior. This is in every field and occurs at every age and stage of life. Just look at nursing itself. For instance, many hospital nurses look down at long term care or school nurses. BSN nurses look down at ADN nurses, LPN’s look down at CNA’s-and the list continues.

Doctors, in particular, tend to become condescending because of the way they are treated by society and their peers. Many nurses themselves treat doctors like they are gods, which in turn makes the doctors feel more superior to the nurse. However- first of all-this is not all doctors and most doctors do not look down at nurses. Second of all, remember-like any bully-the problem is with them, not you. Do not let it get to you. Everyone is good at something, and we cannot complete our jobs without them. Nurses need doctors, and doctors need nurses. We each need each other and should treat each other the way we would want to be treated.

Just be the best nurse you can be.
